Go! Help the troops!

Taylor here. I was over at a friends site this morning, Bitten and Bound, they are crazy popular in the celebrity gossip world. They posted this pic and then put a thought in our heads. They said….

“I always feel so small and helpless when I think of what these men and women are doing overseas, risking their lives to fight for the freedoms we enjoy in this country.

“I would like to thank our service men and women overseas, so during the holidays we will be dedicating a portion of this site to them.”

On a personal note, my brother will be leaving for Afganistan in August. I think about how safe he’ll be everyday. I feel like I need to really help support the troops….even though I am Canadian and these troops are American.

Here is my challenge. Bitten and Bound would like you to send their messages to them at… bittenandbound@gmail.com. They will publish your message…written or from youtube until January 1st. Please tell the troops that you value what they do, even if you disagree with the war.

Great idea Taylor. Messages from home are so very important in keeping up the moral of the troops.

Here’s a great song about a little girl who asks Santa to bring her daddy home from the war for Christmas.

Thanks for sharing this Taylorblue…

We hope your brother is aye OK with his new posting and our heart goes out to the pawns of politics which is sadly how some troops are treated.

Here’s our dedication, for the politicians this one:-

Now, that’s one post that got my attention TBlue!

Wish your brother to be safe in Afghanistan.

There’s someone on my facebook who travels quite a bit there. If your brother would like to know more about the place before he goes, I can try to check if that guy is willing to share about his experience (through me of course, you must have heard of my privacy paranoia!). Should not be a prob, he keeps posting videos of the place on his facebook. He’s a western civil.

Great Post TB. Nothing fluffy about this one, but where is Angry?

The troops do a great job and we take it all for granted sat in our cosy armchairs. A great way to do a little bit to help.

Thanks. :)

Mel/Fab
Get over it.
TB post what you want, and not what you think will make others happy.
Good luck to your brother

Nice post TB and wish your brother the best. I think anyone going into a warzone is a remarkable human being. Not for the faint hearted at all. May he be kept safe.

Just a suggestion TB, as your brother is going to Afghanistan why not do a follow up post.
Should the members of the armed forces complain about being sent to a war zone. As they say in the UK they chose to take the Queens shilling

I will for sure do a follow-up…but I know he is really excited about going. Why?? I’m not sure.

He may be excited for a similar reason why others who enlist who are eager….

A strong sense of National Pride and duty, and a desire to make a difference and defend our country.

As much as I hateHateHATE this war (or *any* war for that matter) I support these men and women.

He is excited because he gets to finally use all the training … he was telling me about a gun that he gets to use and he was so excited.

I hate the war too…but I support the women and men that fight it for us.

Maybe some of them are excited because they’re not the sharpest tools in the box, are Gung Ho, and just want to kick shit out of a few rag-heads.
Others are like TB’s brother and want to put their professional training into practice.

Greeneyezz, how is flying thousands of miles to another state’s territory ‘defending our country’ ?

Finally as GIC said if you join the military, don’t be surprised if you get sent to war.

Ermmm, they join the army and expect what? Helping old ladies across the road?
No, you have to go and fight, thats the job description. Nobody sends me page 3 models or gets Jim Davidson to come and do a show to cheer me up before I go into a meeting with some brainless tool from an OEM, why because thats my job.

Expecting to be slaughtered for this comment,

Actually a fiarpoint GIM, how many sign up to die for their country? I’d not do it and will admit it here…funny how its the politicians woh are ‘right behind the troops’ about 5,000 miles behind them.

Thanks for raising this Taylorblue!

One of the problems is the aftercare for the troops, once they have returned home.

I was reading about a soldier the other day who had both of his legs blown off, came back to the UK and went straight into an NHS hospital. Not in a seperate hospital, not even in a seperate ward for war veterans but a standard bed next to whoever had been brought in.

He will be in physio for the next few months but he has to wait on the NHS list for this physio the same as everyone else. He is basically being treated the same as any other patient.

But he’s not though is he. Because he had his legs blown off whilst fighting for his country.

And he is one of hundreds of soldiers being brought back and put in the same system.

There is a charity in place, the Army Benevolent fund, which endevours to help soldiers and I believe they have one charity run hospital for aftercare but this is poorly funded by the government. At the moment the soldiers at this hopsital are having to undertake their physio in a local swimming pool with ordinary civilians. One amputee was asked to leave because he was frightening the children. No joke.

However, there is another charity that has been set up called Help for Heroes http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/ which is undertaking a phenomenal job.

It’s all rather embarassing really isn’t it?

Why are we paying good money for physio if his legs have been blown off?
Surely physio on fresh air is money wasted?
Is this why so many ex army end up being bums?
