Go! Change a belief.

October 10th, 2007 by Mighty Morgan

Mighty Morgan here, author of The Process of a Miracle. I have been challenged by Sibba, author of Seeing is Believing… to pick a belief to change within my life. But I thought it would make it more interesting by asking what beliefs you hold that don’t seem to be working.

We all hold our own personal perspective within this life we live. But some of us share the same ideas planted deep within ourselves, that continually manifest themselves as the struggles we encounter in our daily experiences of life.

The actions I displayed throughout my life all sprung from the seeds of ideas and information planted within me at a very early age, in which I was taught that life was to be lived a certain way and I was to conform to those ways in order to survive within this world successfully. I tried a million different ways to shove myself into this “mold” of who I thought I was supposed to be, failing miserably with each attempt.

Because the truth was, that who I am never fit into that mold.

In the process of constantly re-examining what I hold to be true, false, real, fake, good, bad, etc. I have been offered the opportunity to re-create my existence, by re-defining the very ideas and stubborn beliefs, I still at times cling to in regards to life and the role I play within it.

Any ideas not working for you? Any beliefs you would like to embrace within your own life, but can’t seem to discover the means by which they reflect themselves in the experience of your life?

I will choose the one that resonates most closely with my own experience and actively change it within my own life!

Any takers???????

Hi Mighty, nice to see you back here.

I would love to lose my habit of labelling and judging people, for occassionally better but more often for worse.

Hey Sarah….I would have to agree with Aussiecynic on this one. But the actual act of consciously judging others and labeling does stem from a belief system…or a least a measurement system. I know that i have found that when I judge or label….I try not too, but at times i do…I’m usually judging myself.
From what I know….and I could be wrong….but those things we judge others upon are typically the very same things we ourselves see reflected from within us.

Fair point, thanx assie and Morgan, maybe beating myself up about labelling isn’t justified afterall?

I would choose to be more confident, yet not egotistical around people, especially when meeting new people or dating.

Belief or personality trait that is question???
Judging and labelling folks is not a belief it is a personality trait born usually in habit and human nature…..
I don’t judge or label anymore ….. I came to opinion of oh well people will as time goes on disappoint, offend, hurt and possibly harm you, but they will also surprise, please, comfort, rescue and all things inbetween….
Therefore I live my life not expecting anything from anyone and this way I am not disappointed and am often surprised…. I offer nothing but friendship and hope for nothing but the same.

Beliefs are a different matter…. I believe in myself to anything I choose…. and to accomplish as much or as little as I wish…
I do Believe that ONE PERSON CAN CHANGE THE WORLD! even just by being here..

Very interesting point you have there…but where do personality traits come from????
Are they separate from the beliefs we carry???
What I see from what you wrote is that you have a very strong sense of self..your assets, your flaws…..you seem to accept these parts of yourself as a foundation of who you are…which in turn your beliefs spring from….the way you see yourself…is the way you see the world.
yes???no???

They do say that many of our personality traits are found in our DNA, but I would have to say that way we express those traits in a positive or negative manner is a result of our environment and upbringing.

Nice post aussie.

One belief that I grew up with was you must never tell lies. I try to stick to that as much as possible. I usually “lie” more by omitting the details rather than a full blown lie.

However, that belief does not extend to myself and I do not face up to the truth and quite often tell myself lies as it is easier. Lies are easier to hide behind.

But why must you never tell lies?????? What does it mean if you lie????

It is a belief that I was given by my family. I grew up with it and it is ingrained. Surely a belief is something that you believe and it is only as you get older (and possibly wiser) that you start to question what will happen).

It is what you call a tribal belief when it is ingrained almost in your subconscience almost from the day your were born - you just believe it!!

Thanks ok Mel…Either way no offense taken! I’m sure in someway, shape or form people may not believe in the way I feel as well. I know i don’t always agree with how others believe or feel for that matter. So I don’t mind the “Angry’s” of the world…they give life a certain spice that offers me a perspective full of flavor!
Is that too vebose (verbose)
:)

My belief of equality at work seems to be skewed, those that kiss up and crap down seem to get tot he top while those who say it as it is remain footsoliders, like my good self.

Not going to kiss up, for anyone!

I can make a window to discuss your holistic relative concepts because i believe in synchronised monitored capability. Our exploratory research could lead to 21st Century strategic capability. Forward-looking people like ourselves invest in parallel third-generation projections and identify the solution as responsive organisational capability and you really can’t fail with ‘Outside the box’ monitored options.
What do you think?

Morgan and Mel

It it too wordy, and although i consider myself reasonably well educated and of at least average intellect, the post lost me! Keep English simple.eg

Your enquiry about the use of the entrance area at the library for the purpose of displaying posters and leaflets about Welfare and Supplementary Benefit rights, gives rise to the question of the provenance and authoritativeness of the material to be displayed. Posters and leaflets issued by the Central Office of Information, the Department of Health and Social Security and other authoritative bodies are usually displayed in libraries, but items of a disputatious or polemic kind, whilst not necessarily excluded, are considered individually.

Point taken Angry….But that’s how I write.
BUT I will make an effort to be less “wordy”, because I would rather you understand what I wrote then lose you in the words.
Thanks

But I do appreciate your concern as well as your support…..In the end …..Angry’s just Angry…he doesn’t bother me much.
