Go! Smell the August Photo Competition at Fabulous Photo Gifts

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

If it’s the first of the month then it must be photo competition time at Fabulous Photo Gifts.

August’s theme is holidays - and it doesn’t have to be a recent holiday either. it could be a holiday from yesteryear - they all count. No we’re looking for a photo that really sums up holidays.

More information head over to fab photo gifts and feel free to just drop by and leave a comment. We’ll be announcing July’s wedding competition winner in the next few days.

What would sum up the holiday spirit for you? a picture of folks staring out of a tent at pouring rain, palm trees, golden sands and sunsets, kids in the sea? do tell - we’re going to need some help with this one.

Volver - Penelope Cruz is outstanding

Volver

Saw this brilliant movie by Pedro Almodovar, about 4 women who deal with some really weird circumstances with grit and determination. Penelope Cruz is amazingly radiant and easily puts out one of the finest on screen performances.

Its a light hearted movie though it deals with the serious subject of sex abuse and its repercussions. Mr. Almodovar is at the top of his craft while delivering this one.

doug mcclure

Yes Ok I know it’s a bit of a thin link but to be honest I was dying to try out image uploading on GSTF’s since the move as i haven’t been able to - thanks Deep and Jim for helping!

Anyway - back to the post.

Recently, a group of divers were washed out to sea (where else?) and managed to clamber to shore only to find themselves on the island of Komono Dragons (have I spelt that right?).

Apparently the wee beasties were not pleased to see them (note the Star Trek reference there) and were quite territorial (fancy that?)

It made me dream of waking up in the shoes (or should that be flippers) only to be eye to eye with one of these dragons - you could have been forgiven for thinking you’d washed up on some lost island.

All that would have been needed would have been Doug Mcclure running out of the vegetation closely followed by a fur bikini clad Ms Welsh (i told you this got better!).

So what’s your desert island fantasy? and if you were washed up on a desert island, what would be your first task?

GO Find Your Soul

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

Hiddy-ho!  Gwendel here with a question for all of you.  But, first let me set the scene…..

I was watching the movie The Golden Compass the other day.  My eldest thought I would find it rubbish since the concept of the movie is the soul moves around outside the body rather than inward which goes against what my christian upbringing dictates.  On the contrary, I found this movie to be quite fascinating.

Each individuals soul or “daemon” (demon) was a representation of who they were and they walked, flew, hopped or crawled beside their masters.  For example, the daemons for the army were all wolves while one of the towns gang involved boy’s daemon was a rat.  The individual and their daemon were inseparable and when one suffered pain, the other suffered, as well.  If the individual should happen to die, their daemon would instantly vanish into cinders.

After watching The Golden Compass, I began wondering what my daemon would be.  Since it represents who you are and I find myself being so many different things, I have yet to pinpoint an animal in particular.  My first choice was a hippopotamus seeing as I’m large and slow to walk, but once I get my teeth on you, there’s no turning back.  However, I am also a chameleon — changing my colors and moods along with my surroundings.

So, here’s my question:  What animal would closely represent your daemon?

GO & be outsourced!

Monday, June 16th, 2008

As we’ve added a ‘Movie’ category here at GO! Smell the flowers we’d like to share a recent inflight movie we watched called outsourced Well worth a watch!

An American call centre Manager is told to pack his bags, fly to Mumbai and train the native Indians to be convincing Americans over the phone.

It changes his life! We’d love both American and Indian opinions on the future of outsourcing or is it ‘best’ sourcing? Do tell, Visas are optional.

Kite Runner - a brilliant sensitive movie

Kite Runner

Based on a best selling book, this movie starts as a story of 2 boys in pre Russain Invasion Afghanistan and then takes some very unusual turns. It touches up human insecurities and deep human relationships. Above all the story is extremely well designed and well told.

Watch it for the extremely sensitive story and to get an insight into pre invasion Afghanistan.
