Go! Smell The New Tattoo!

June 28th, 2008 by taylorblue

The other day I got a new tattoo…now the count is up to five…and I’m not done yet. Anyways, I think it’s weird how many people still look at me funny. Getting a tattoo is a fun thing…picking out the tattoo, picking the spot and then watching it be created. This tribal sun was put on my left wrist. I have to say it has hurt the worst of the five I have. That skin is so tender there and when he tattoo’s over a bone…it just vibrates all the way through.

One of the best things about getting a tattoo is talking to the artist. If they are the talkative type it can keep your mind of the mind numbing pain (just wait until I get the huge tattoo on my arm! the stories I will have then!) This tattoo artist was known to me before I got a tattoo from him. I used to babysit his daughter when I tried the whole day home thing. So, he may have been more open with me more than the next girl.

He asked me what I was doing now that I wasn’t babysitting…so I told him that I wrote on the web all day about celebrities. He thought it was crazy and hadn’t met someone who did that yet. So after a bit he said …you know Heath Ledger? I did one of his tattoo’s… I almost hit the floor! I have had a really hard time dealing with his death, and always having to write about him sometimes doesn’t help. So, there the artist was telling me some awesome stories about him. It was a surreal feeling.  The tattoo guy also decided he would add an Australian symbol (aussie you can correct me if I’m wrong) around the sun to symbolize Heath. Now this wouldn’t be so significant if it wasn’t by the same guy that did a tattoo for Heath.

Is there any questions you have ever wondered about tattoos? Ask them and I will try to answer them the best I can. I want to clear up any myths people have about them.

Nice Tat Taylor..
I think he is referring to the Orange dots around the edge more an Aboriginal motive than mainstream but a nice touch…
Not into them myself.. did think about it then didnt worry…
Have a major horror of needles… long story.. lol..
but just couldnt bring myself…
My sister has 3, my friend has one or two… and other people I know…
most look rather nice, and it helps if the artist is someone you get along with..
does it itch?

I am actually more scared of needles now…the tattoo needle goes in and out really quick so having one go in for a long time really hurts me… :) and nurses say that people with tattoos seem to be more of a wuss then people without…it could be stereotyping too!

Hiya TB…

We say TB for Taylro Blue as at school in the UK we have TB jabs, needles, to prevent Tuberclorosis (spelling) and thats for sharing your body art here.

Maybe there could be holistic tatoo schools in the future that combine acupuncture with ink ;-)

A few of our laymans questions to you:

Q1) Can you puncture a vein when having a tatoo - like yours near the wrist?
Q2) Does the technique improve with technology or it the smae as in the 70’s
Q3) Why does the ink ‘fade’ or is that a myth?

Just wondered!

I love the colors and design of your tatoo. I don’t have any questions. One of my friends has lots of tatoos. I have none. My favorite on hers is one of Eeryore on ther chest, on her breast and chest.

They were supposed to be simple questions…LOL…

My daughter asked the same question as yours about the vein thing… they are just going down one layer of your skin…i will try and find a picture for you…so they are digging in deep…I remember I was kinda scared when he was needling it there…but it doesn’t come near the veins.

Here’s a great explanation… http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/Business/DragonButterfly/TattooProcess.html

For the second one…they sterilize everything in an alcove…and if they don’t take the needles out of the wrapping I wouldn’t go through with it. The tattoo parlour must be immaculately clean…or again don’t go through with it. I’m sure it’s much safer because so much more is known about them.

The ink can fade by the way you take care of it…uv rays do crazy things for them. Tattoo artists refer to tattoos like looking through a piece of paper behind glass. So like in a store window the tattoos can fade the same way. I am a stubborn one for wearing sunscreen but i do put sunscreen on my tattoos…(I guess it’s a start) And certain colors like yellow and white can fade too…

Phew…any more questions??? :)

Sorry, I associate tramp stamps with tasteless scumbags.

Devoid of style they mistakenly think an ink drawing in their skin enhances their appearance when in fact it makes them look like a page from a school kid’s scribbling book.

And what’s worse is it’s for life. Would anyone out there ever think, “I’ll pick a new of sty;e shoes and this style will last me for the next 60 years of my life as the style never go out of fashion and I will always love them”? This would be a rather unrealistic thought.

Tattoos will always be associated with people of little brain.

Heath Ledger did not OD by his choosing. What he did is actually fairly easy to do with the treatment he was receiving. Too many sedating medications from too many places not knowing what was already prescribed. You include cold medications and it is potentially deadly. His central nervous systems just slowly shut down. He did not have an inordinate amout of drugs in his system, just enough to show that he was taking the medications, but not at knowingly overdosing amounts.

Those famous scottish regiments do a lot of tattoo’s - i think one of them did the end credits for Thunderbirds Are Go but i never heard of them working with Heath. (bless him).

Taylor - check out the BBC website under entertainment - there’s a piece about the Batman film being dedicated to Heath and the Stunt chappie that also died. Quite a good piece from the director about how Heath took on the Joker role.

Tattoo’s - not for me and to be honest I find them an eyesore, from the simple obligatory slag tag accross girls backs and celtic ‘I wanna be in the gang’ bands right through to the more intricate, soon to be a blurred purple and green mess, pictures people have.
As for questions, can they actually remove tattoo’s these days and if so does the skin look good as new or do you end up with an arm that looks like you baked it on gas mark 5 for an hour or two.

As for this Heath character, who was he and what did he do? Surely you can’t mean the long dead, semi famous nobody that popped his mortal coil almost a lifetime ago.

Arent tatoos an art from, a way of self expression with deep roots?

Look at Beckham and co now - arms totally covered.

And despite his genuine credentials of celebrity and footballing prowess, Beckham is also known for being a footballer of very little brain.

His ink scribbled arms bear testimony to this.

Wow…I am really surprised how quickly people you thought you knew in here can turn on you….damn….

Heath was a great actor to me…and people can say what they want about him…but I will stay loyal to him….

And no they can’t remove tattoo’s totally…the laser that they use just puts a scar over the tattoo so you can’t see it…they are permanent…so if people aren’t sure that it’s what they want or it’s “A PHASE” don’t do it…

Hi Taylor,

Nice design on the tattoo but not for I’m afraid.

I used to go through phases of lets get a tattoo but thankfully I didn’t because that’s all it was, a phase.

I don’t however agree with the rather disputable fact that people with tattoo’s equals thickness.

One of my closest friends, exceptionally intelligent, director of her own publishing house - 2 tattoos (admittedly 1 is regretted)

A colleague who is an ex barrister (by choice) - 3 rather large tribal tattoo’s

They’re not for me but I can admire them for what they often are, personal art.

Tattoo = thicko is not always the case. But more often than not it is.

Your comment on them being “just a phase” for you concurs with my earlier point on the fashion statement aspect. You wouldn’t buy a new handbag today and expect it to still be fashionable for the rest of your life.

Tattoos sadly too often are fashion statements for people of small brain, Beckham just happens to be a rich and famous example of this.

Personally I prefer women who who cut the underside of their bottom lip and insert CD in there for decoration.

Then to improve their looks further, I like it when they extend ther necks to giraffe proportions using a few rings to stretch it out.

And the for the perfect female look, they need to have their feet bound from birth so they don’t get any bigger than 5 inches long.

Aaah some fashions are just here to stay, lucky for those women with the above fashion statements, at least theirs don’t go wrinkly and fade, and they are timelessly classy.
