Go! Smell the honesty
June 17th, 2008 by Purple13The other day, taking a short cut down the beautiful Via Gellia Road (between Cromford and Buxton) I came across a van that made me smile.
Across the back of the truck was written the firms name and underneath that, the words “New York – Milan – Matlock (but mostly Matlock)” - I should explain that Matlock is a small town in Derbyshire and a bit of a tourist attraction - Matlock Bath is quite pretty.
You’ve got to admire their honesty – it’s an admirable quality and we’ve found at Fabulous Photo Gifts that it really does wonders for customer care too.
So what about you - Do you think honesty is the best policy? if not then why not?

Honesty = personality!
Maybe they’ve those time correct clocks above their reception aswell?
The key thing here is humour and the memorability of the brand.
It’s worked - you’ve posted about it and it’ll be a major differentiator in their company.
Take the techy issues here as we grow as a community - we expect glitches, we learn from them and Deep posts about it over at forums - we took that call - to be open and it’s excellence companies should strive for, not perfection.
Its all about the personality.
A flower smellers awad should be given to that company if you could Purple - in fact - Fab photos cold award 5 customers a flower smeller badge, just a thought…
Dubai - New York - Peckham

Hi Jonathan,
Do you do badges? I need some badges making up with someone’s face on them if thats possible.
Regarding honesty, I learnt at a very early age that honesty doesn’t pay. Once when I was caught scrumping for apples and I admitted it was me (rollocking) and then when I admitted writing on a desk in school (another rollocking).
I’m still honest, I just commit less crime.
Hi Lib
We’re working on adding some magnetic ‘badges’ but they’ll probably only be available in qty’s of 10 off due to print set up etc.
If you’re referring to the more metal ‘pin or button’ badges, we could probably source something - how many and how soon would probably be the deciding factors but we’re always up for a challenge!
Re the honesty - sorry to hear that but glad you now commit less crime. I used to get worried about my Mum - out there on the streets of an evening - what with all those muggings… but if she wants to mug people, that’s her business!!

No worries, all sorted but thanks anyway.
In all instances in advertising I would love to see honest advertising… but I dont think many companies would sell much if they did..
for example
Maccas…
You’ll love the fibre after all its tastes like card board…
how about the ultimate slogan for a company
Nuclear Power
You’ll glow green with our energy
perhaps they should curb the honest intentions just a little
or even better
oxfam
‘your money goes towards our workers and ad campaigns’
or always ultra
‘you may be able to play volleyball but in reality you will sit at home with a hot water bottle on your gut eating chocolate then wondering why you are piling on the pounds’
or vaseline
‘everyone knows you’ve bought it for the outside chance of a ‘journey up the bourneville boulevard’
or famine relief
‘just 2 pound will feed okemi for a week- this adver cost 50,000 weeks food’
Oh I do like those…
Childrens Charity’s
Our chldren thank you for their University degrees…
We have church charities down here which are none profit..
but the organisers very soon start driving rather expensive cars and buying new homes all in the name of charity…

‘100% of your donations will go towards our legal costs defending kiddy fiddlers’

I am honest to a fault…I get myself into trouble. But, I can omit. Generally, I believe that honesty is the best policy, but there are exceptions. Such as if you know something about a couple and they don’t know yet (i.e. an affair), I would never tell or let on that I know. If something is told to me in confidence, I don’t say anything and I try not to lie. I turn the questions back to the other person. (listening skill…I do that well). I’ll admit that I made a mistake and it gives what I say more credibility. Because my word is my word.
Same deal here Clueless..
I am a secret keeper.. and if i really feel the need to tell I tell hubby and he then forgets so all good…

Yes, I have the same thing. In keeping things confidential, when my husband and I were just friends, he was telling me about his interest in Tina at church. Well, the next day his roommate and one of my closest friends was telling me about his interest in Tina. Well, neither one knew that she was in the same Bible Study as I was and I knew she was not interested in dating and would not be a good match for either one. Well, both of my male friends for two weeks kept talking about her. Then, they finally talked…much to my relief. My husband still uses that as an example of my keeping confidences. What an awkward postition!!! I supported and encouraged both of them because that is what I would have done if I had no background. What a tense time for me!!!
I know the worst is when you know one is leaving the other though and cant tell……. that is so hard… but it is funny when both are telling you they are leaving the other.. then Hubby have bets on who is going first and who is going to pretend to be the victim… but it is hard not to say but you know you just cant…..
you acted very well in that situation I dont know how I would have coped hopefully just as diplomatically… well done

Oh, I’ve been there with my best friend and her boyfriend who was a great friend. I knew he was going to break up with her and she only spoke with him and myself….Yikes…awful situation made worse because I was psychiatrically hospitalized for depression when he finally decides to break up. That also ended my friendship with her because her response after was that I abandoned her in her time of greatest need and she did not like how I was acting before the hospitalization. Also, that if I was going to be like that again that she was not sure she wanted to be friends. Okay, we were in our late twenties, not junior high school. What part of psychiatric hospitalization did she not get. But, I knew the break up was coming…his timing sucked or was good because I did not want to invest my energy into that type of friendship.
Is it being dis-honst if you don’t say anything? I don’t think so but there are always exceptions.

It is really using your judgement and looking at your motivation for telling and also asking yourself is it my place to say something?
it does or can make an accesory and even guilty… depending but not dis honest… it would depend and you do need to make a judgement call sometimes as to what is for the interest but I worked out a long time ago it is far better to keep your mouth closed…. unless it is something which a crime or very very bad…
