Go! Smell the Weather (yukky)
May 29th, 2008 by Purple13
Sorry I’ve been absent - a busy week with a dash to Cambridge in the driving rain with a return journey in equally driving rain during the 4am hours of the following morning…. and my poor wipers were on double speed the whole time so now i need new wipers too.
Anyway, i had a grand post prepared about driving in the rain - idiots without lights on etc and a suitable picture of a wet road seen through a car windscreen (perhaps I’ll use it next week??) but then i received this image on an email and i knew i just had to share it.
You see we get so uptight about the weather - the Brit’s find it especially enthralling (you’d think we’d be used to it by now) and after seeing all the news stories about ‘happy campers’ braving high winds and rain etc during a school holiday week - then, well you get the idea.
So my query is this. Have we really advanced weather forecasting with modern technology? are the old country ways still just as relevant and what outing have you had to recently postphone due to the weather or did you ‘brave it out’ in true ‘brit style’?
Do tell - (oh and don’t you think the picture is just the funniest?)

I love it!! I love it!!! I want to plaster it everywhere. I want one of my own. LOL!!! Thanks I really needed that!! REALLY!! (This is why I love this site!!)
yep! you just gotta love the sheer brilliance and simplicity of it.
Wow, a magical stone!!!
Does anyone notice that ClinicallyClueless forgot how to spell her name, so has actually over 20 smells. Check out the one with the space between words. Duh, I forgot who I was!!!
I have one of these…. they work really well and never get it wrong..
It is true if the stone is wet it usually raining ..
Moppet (my 9yr old) informed me not to trust a weather man with a moe, because they cant tell the weather and they lie…
I asked her why she thought this and she replied he gets it wrong all the time… and that her hair (which curls into ringlets when its going to rain) does a far better job….
And you know what she is right…
This will have the horoscope wielding hippy types enthralled, although it makes way too much sense for most of them to be prepared to accept it.
That is unique..I want one of this thing hanging in my room..haha..no garden or barn or yard or any other space to put it up..
reminded me of groundhog day!
ah the traditional groundhog day..i have no idea what kind of day is that..
in the film - bill murray relives the same day over an over again - eventually using it to do good and help people when he realises he can ‘predict’ what is going to happen and where. The groundhog refers to a furry, beaver like animal that lives in a wooden stump and depending on whether its tail twitches or some such sillyness, predicts how hard the winter will be etc.
ah..now i get it..haha..so this tradition still alive huh..haha..traditions must stay strong..
Not just a magical weather telling stone, but a hilarious stone. That picture cracked me up so bad my boss is looking at me wondering what work I am doing that is so funny!
Great site
Hi Everything’ welcome aboard and hope you stay around long enough for other gems that come our way here in the garden. My old Scouting chum in Hertfordshire sent me his regular dose of funny emails and like you, we’ve caused quite a stir in the office - great stuff.
Urban Pagan finally displays his spiritual side, arf arf
You guys remember those pet rocks…… this is what’s next.
Hey, they are evolving!!!
Nah, we just put them to work.
Oh…thought I discovered something!! You are right.
Hi Simple - are those those little rocks with googly eyes stuck on them and ice cream sticks with funny slogans on them like you get at the seaside momento shops? - you know those little wooden signs with the slogans on - eg: We aim to please, will you aim to please?” with a picture of a toilet? I once stayed in a B&B and the toilet was tiled i the things - very entertaining but slightly distracting when you should be watching what you are doing.
I can’t stop chuckling.
I snagged the image, and made my own!
Good for you Blue Collar’ - if only we could hack into the weather system and hotwire the rock!
