Go! Smell Alan Cumming

May 20th, 2008 by Funkygirl012003

Move over Magnum P.I.! magnum pi tom selleck

I’ve got me a new favorite actor in the form of Alan Cumming.

Alan Cumming in Saturnius

I’m on kind of a broadway kick right now and Alan Cumming is in so many great plays and musicals.  Everyone over here knows him for his role in Cabaret, as Emcee the host, but he’s also played Hamlet, The Seagull, Accidental Death of an Anarchist and Three Penny Opera.  Not all on Broadway though.

Anyway, I post this change in fave actors because it’s just one of many personal preferance changes I’ve noticed over the years.  Guess it’s just a part of really becoming what you call a mature human being.  I used to hate onions, now they’re an essential ingredient for good enchiladas.  My favorite color used to be lime green, now its purple.  Most of it’s really silly stuff, but a lot of little changes over the years add up to a whole new person.

How many little changes have you noticed in your personality and preferences over the years?

PS. Alan Cumming actually has a fragrance/cologne called Cumming.  Go ahead and get your dirty jokes out of the way now.

Glad to see your taste has refined somewhat!!! :-)

Garlic and chilllies - MORE of both please - not a food we bothered with till our teens.

Ooh, what a combination. Sounds like a good dose of heartburn to me. My taste has changed, but there will always be a place in my heart for Magnum and his short swim trunks.

I’ve become much more selective in the clothing that I choose. Now, I purchase what I like versus what was more conservative/boring. I like quality and style, and would rather save money for one piece than buy many less expensive things. My tastes are more expensive and my brands are narrower. I think part comes with age and having more money. But, when it comes to shoes…I can’t even stand in the cute things I used to wear all day working retail. Don’t know how I moved. Now, I want comfort with style versus style with comfort being optional. I had a job were I didn’t have to wear heels for a long time, then when I had one where I need them. OMG, every joint in my body hurt as well as my feet. Ouch, ouch, ouch!! But, now I have happy feet!!!

Glad to hear you’ve made the move to more sensible shoes. I can’t see how women walk around in those point toed death traps all day. Happy feet are the foundation to a long lasting structure.

My taste in actors has not changed much, I think as I age I like the actors that I saw as very young adults and to watch them mature and grow as an actor is enjoyable to me. An occasional new star might catch my eye, but it isn’t the same as being an adolescent or young adult. I think because that age group is the age that my children would be if I had any, so it just isn’t the same when you are thinking…but they are so young!!!

I’ve definitely become a food snob!!! I live in Southern California what can I say. I like artisan foods and high quality food. That does not mean that I get to eat it all the time. But, my cooking has changed in that direction. Why did you ask that question…now I feel old…I mean I used to have Harrison Ford posters on my wall and he is still doing Indiana Jones, but much older. Have I aged that much too?

Being older has its advantages…you have more money to get the things you want/need. So, I can be more choosy and get what I really want rather than settling…Well, I never really settled thats how I ended up in so much debt when I was younger. Now, completely debt free except for the house. I’ve grown into being able to afford my tastes.

Interesting, thought-provoking question!

Glad you thought so, I was afraid it might be a little too silly for go smell, especially coming after Gareth’s China Earthquake post.

You’re only as old as you feel!

Hey Funkygirl! Great post!! Magnum PI was one of my favorites too. I especially liked him in Three Men and a Baby… cute!!

The new guy… can’t say I have seen him or if I have, I don’t remember where… sorry. He is kinda cute though… good for you :)

As for changes, they are as good as a holiday. I can change my mind about something quite often so that I don’t get too bored ;)

The biggest change I have noticed is that my patience does wear a little thin by the end of the day… especially if the kids aren’t in by 7:30pm!! Aside from that, I still have the same favorite color for as long as I can remember - red - and no matter what… I can never give away chocolate. I don’t watch TV on purpose and haven’t done for about three years now… I used to be a couch potato BC, and my attitude of gratitude is more apparent than it has ever been.
