Wo zhi dao wo bu zhi dao; I know I don’t know

May 15th, 2008 by Gareth

This came to me from a Chinese colleague of mine - I helped the English interpretation a little;

1.jpg

I don’t know how well you know this disaster but I know you will be deeply shocked

2.jpg

I don’t know how many towns were destroyed but I know many people lost their homes

3.jpg

I don’t know how his house looked before but I know he can’t rebuild it by himself

4.jpg

I don’t know how many schools were destroyed but I know the classrooms were full

5.jpg

I don’t know whose satchel this was but I know it was a child’s

6.jpg

I don’t know if this mother saw her child still alive but I know the child is the treasure of the family

7.jpg

I don’t know if the child was found dead but I know the mother will cry a long time

8.jpg

I don’t know how many people are under these ruins but I know most will not survive

9.jpg

I don’t know if these hands are a boy or a girl but I know they want to touch their parents again

10.jpg

I don’t know what time it is here but I know it is a horrible time

11.jpg

I dont’ know why they embrace so tightly but I know there is good reason

12.jpg

I don’t what this man is looking for but I know the chances of finding it are low

13.jpg

I don’t know why they are crying but I know the tears are heartfelt

14.jpg

I don’t know if this child can survive or not but I know in her heart there is already pain

15.jpg

I don’t know how long he was buried but I know he is now one of the lucky ones

16.jpg

I don’t know what she is signalling but I know it isn’t victory

17.jpg

I don’t know if the driver escaped but I know the supply road is now blocked

18.jpg

I don’t know where they are going but I know they are leaving their homes

19.jpg

I don’t know if they will sleep well here but I know they have no choice

20.jpg

I don’t know how many people are here but I know there will be trouble if there is no food and water

21.jpg

I don’t know how he escaped but I know he doesn’t have an easy future

22.jpg

I don’t know their destination but I know only they can help themselves right now

23.jpg

I don’t know where they are but I know its not their home

24.jpg

I don’t know if these babies know their tough situation but I know when they grow up their parents will tell them

25.jpg

I don’t know what they are thinking but I know there is still hope

26.jpg

Give a helping hand, warm the hearts of people who are in big trouble, support them to gain courage to face life and rebuild a bright future.

Thank you for sharing this…shock is a good word. My prayer are with them and those effected by the Earthquake.

Shock! Sadness! Awe of how the Earth can create such disasters! Sadness! Tears! Concern! Shock! Prayers! Puts things in perspective. Prayers! Shock!

Sorry I can in no way take credit. It came to me from a Chinese colleague.
I hope everyone help and supports these people in their time of need, they’ve never done anything to us.

Heart wrenching stuff GIC.

And I’m pleased (probably the wrong word) that they are more open with the media on this and accepting outside help.

Apparently they have the best army in the world to cope with this type of disaster, not much recompense I know.

I feel so sad. Being a Chinese myself, I feel the connection to them yet I have no strength nor the ability to help them thus all I can do is pray for them..

Hi GIC - top post mate - such a pity it takes such an event to prompt / create it.

I wanted to say something about the smallest glimmer of hope being the only thing we sometimes have to cling too but i can’t articulate it and to be honest i’m just to sad to even try.

Hey there Gareth..
When I heard this I thought did think of yourself and your new wife and if family and friends of yours are ok.. not knowing what part you have been in …
Your post is possibly the best I have seen and a low Bow to you and your friend
Regardless of where you are from people are people…
Regardless of your language grief always sounds the same..
the sound of a parent crying over their lost child sounds the same regardless of where you are…
We have been watching for appeals contact numbers down here, the chinese Community in sydney has started a relief hotline to try and help…
The chinese Government to their Credit is doing everything they can, unlike Burma… and for this they must be congratulated…
The test will come over the next months and years as the true cost to people becomes known….

Thanks AC,
We are a long way from this, just above North Korea. The government and all the people in China are pulling together on this one. Unfortunately the scale of it is huge, the area it is in is not easy to access and the population densities of Chinese cities make these things all the more worse in terms of the human cost.

aussiecynic Says:

I heard last night the Chinese Government are calling for Outside Help
And the world is ready…. With any luck the response will and is as fast as it has been in other areas…
I truly hope the get more survivors….. but in some places there is nothing left… so sad
They have launched an inquiry into why so many schools collapsed, and the scale of damage..

The Shock wave from the Earthquake itself travelled around the Earth Twice..

Just amazing pictures Gareth who ever took them. I heard on the news that this area is still experiencing after shocks and people are afraid to go back indoors. I couldn’t begin to imagine how terrifying that must be.

The main risk they face is from continuing rain in places and the fact that some of the damns in the area are in urgent need of attention. If ont of them goes then the effects will be even worse than the current catastrophe.

The main furstration for me is I am so far away from it and can not lend any direct help. Hopefully this afternoon I wil be able to give blood.

Gareth, and Shiley, thank you for presenting this opportunity for us to know better the reality of this disaster, so far from where most of us live…thank you, everyone, for prayer, don’t feel that it isn’t that much b/c you can’t be there to help instead. Gareth thank you so much for sharing - You too, Shirley as I came here from http://www.blogcatalog.com

I don’t know if you know the impact you have made with this post, but I know that I will spread the word.

These are the last days and the birth pangs, Jesus spoke about in Matthew 24 are coming to pass at an evermore increasing frequency. Unfortunately, for the lost, this is only the begining of the troubles about to come upon them during the 7-year tribulation. I’m sorry that it sounds like I’m preaching, but everyone needs to know that all this was prophesied in the Bible over 2000 years ago.

Thank you, Gareth.

Let’s join all those in prayer for help and understanding, certain and in joy that this world and all its manifestations are overcome and healed. We see only the past.

Dear Heavenly Father,

we come to You to ask for help in the face of untold suffering and pain. You created us in love and perfect peace. Let us be reminded and experience that we and everyone are still safe in Your love. No matter what we may think, You love us. Therefore, we do not need to worry and be afraid, nor does anyone else. We trust in You to provide us with the vision and understanding to see this world free from our mistaken judgments and interpretations. Behind all that, in Your light, is Your will for perfect happiness for all of us obvious. There we are healed and restored to peace and sanity and perfect safety. Thank You, Father. We love You.

Thank you for praying with me, trusting in God’s perfect love.

All,
Prayers are fine but direct action would be good also. Give money, give blood and see what other actions are being requested is out there in the aid organisation web sites.
The Chinese are getting help from Taiwanese, Japanese, Singaporean and other countries in the disaster area but money, blood and other things can be done from afar.

I don’t know whether our donation will make a difference but I know we should try to help.

Our thoughts are with those suffering loss in incomprehensible terms…and we know that the people will eventually rebuild because that is our nature.

Emma F Says:

The earthquake shook the earth, but the lives of so many are now broken, and so many people are having to face an unknown future, which is certainly not the future they thought it was.

I am sat at home, in a house that is standing upright, with three lovely children inside it, playing happily. I think of the Mums and Dads in China who are staring at devastation, having lost their houses, and their children. Any I cry. Tears are not going to help. I feel helpless, but I will look to find opportunities to help.

Thankyou Gareth - and to your friend.

Thanks for sharing.

The Austrian Red Cross and the Caritas are already collecting donations for China and get support from TV and newspapers.

Words do fail for catastrophes like this one.

The help and solidarity shown from Chinese citizens to aid the ones in need, is a great step forward for Chinas international reputation.
This positive action will maybe even iron out some impressions the world got in the ‘Tibet - Olympics’ affair.

Our pity and soul is with the victims.

Thanks for sharing this Gareth.

As they say pictures paint a thousand words and a dozen pictures are even better.

It is so heart breaking to see all this suffering, not only after quake in China but also after the cyclone in Burma. Perhaps the only good thing afer such events is how we all seem able and willing to rally around and help the affected people.

Lets hope the situation in Burma clears up and “foreign” aid is allowed in.
