Go! Get a life
May 7th, 2008 by Blue Collar Goddess[You Tube Video Should Go Here]

My son is becoming addicted to this game ( http://www.youtube.com:80/watch?v=QfICeBtVv8U ) — which doesn’t bother me in the least. His older brother (they are 19 & 20, let’s hear it for ‘Irish Twins’) is also very involved with quite a different game, Grand Theft Auto 9000 or something — and when he’s not playing that, he’s playing WoW. World of Warcraft.
I can’t claim to know too much about either of those games, but I do know that when my youngest boy is playing Echochrome, he’s listening to a quartet and building his brain for his entrance into University this August, where he will be studying Aeronautics Engineering.
I love both my boys equally, but they are as different as night and day. The oldest and I have been talking about what his plans are, as he’s dropped out of school (college) and wanders aimlessly through his days and nights moaning and groaning about not having a life. His original plan was to finish school, get a degree, join the Peace Corps and heal the world.
Now, he is looking at a Military career and continues to play his violent fantasy video games while his younger brother examines the laws of physics.
::shakes head::
What kinds of games — if any — interest you or your family? Do you see a pattern in any of it and if so, how does it apply to your reality?

G’Day there Rufus…
WoW I used to love it.. world of warcraft is very addictive …
we did for while play soldier of fortune on line.. single shooter game very good and loads of fun great for destressing..
Grand theft auto is ok but the kids are right into .. my boys were almost addicted to it on the ps2.. and now with the new one.. you just cant get them of it…
all my kids are different from one another.. chalk and cheese etc.. and Moppet is complete from the rest…
the military thing is more because of the games… see how he likes Americas Army thats the one the US Defence force had designed for recruitment … yep.. its not bad but is fairly real life… and hid the other games… just loose them… truly ….
no the boys have other interests thankfully and they have no time for games….. Moppet likes to play a few online games.. but she asked us first because wehave made her well aware of the not so nice side of the net… we supervise and investigate first…
the two gaming and reality are kept separate for her…
My time on here is mostly taken up with blogging etc… very few games these days.. although I do enjoy things which are more roleplay than shoot ems…. these days… I went of soldier when moppet started to enjoy playing them and I noticed she enjoyed them a little to much…. so best to stop that one right now…
get your lad into a new hobby… make him start a short course training in something that gives him a reason to get up each day… and he will soon be in a much better place….
Good luck
I’m a bit addicted to “Knighthood” on facebook. Someone hooked me in, and now I’m snagged up in it!
You could join my kingdom and we could rule the whirled together if you like?
As for the boy starting a short course in anything, I’d rather he just count his losses, get a job, save some money over the summer and start with a clean slate in August. He and his brother are quite competetive, and if the school he “dropped out of” will give him an academic pass, put him on a scholastic “probation” I think he will feel compelled to get his arse up on a daily basis.
But yeah, he does need something. I think his girlfriend is his latest “hobby” — he NEEDS a plan!
Send me your game link if you like… world domination is a goal of mine… hehehhe..
Im on facebook as me… hehehehe….
yeh its funny though boys are like that my 3 eldest all went through it… after a while though they got so bored and fed up they got up and got work…. we stopped helping them out with paying for this or that and said to them you want go and work for it… finally they got the message… but a new girlfriend can help… because she will want to go, to do things expect things etc… and if he has no cash he cant she will soon get sick of the games and hanging around doing not much… I would be working on that… lol….
I’m on facebook as me too:
Sydney Nash!
I tried to look at all the Kesa’s there … but …
YOU hooks ups wivs me!
Hi there Rufus,my daughters two and a half and i can’t wait to get, Buckaroo,Hungry Hippos,Kerplunk,Operation. She’s pretty smart already though and know’s her way round some of the mini games in Super Mario on the Nintendo DS!
Hey Rufus…
We’re with Bo on the traditional 70’s games such as twister (partially clothed works) battleships, monopoly, scrabble and tin can alley. Not really big into virtual online games despite the technology leaping forward. Although did enjoy a session on a WI recently - the golf game - v v addictive…..
Shoot ‘em up online leading to a military career? Maybe there’s other other reasons why he’s joining - like travel, perhaps? The scientist in your family as well - what a dangerous combination - sounds like a sharp cookie
Ok, I don’t have kids yet but my husband love to play games as well..strategy type of games and currently he is playing Counter Strike (he played this game a long time ago when he was still a kid)..the he played Sim City 3000..I like Sim City 3000..but I can’t find the time for me to play games actually, too busy day and night..
Nur Sarah Lam’s last blog post..Dear Readers..
Games are great. I played them forever. I still play them. I like the PSP games. I am a big soccer fan. Online I like Warcraft 3 and I also play chess games.
Mike’s last blog post..Lynyrd Skynyrd - All Time Greatest Hits
Fancy a REAL game of chess if we make it over to Luton in the summer, Mike?
I have to say that I don’t make time for games myself but my kids, both girls, who are 7 and 4 love to play the NickJr and PlayHouse Disney online games. We don’t have any of those console games (and I wouldn’t know where to start).
That echochrome game has great music and I really couldn’t work it out from the YouTube video except that it looks like you have to keep climbing? and it’s probably not as exciting (for boys) to put the music on in the background and do their homework instead! You know Rufus, your boys are individuals and whatever they do, I’m sure you will support them, no matter what line of work they get into.
Buzzing with Ange’s last blog post..I Love You
