Factually I guess you can’t argue. China does execute people. There were articles crying foul that they are the worlds biggest executer of people - guess what, they’ve also got the biggest population, anyone find a connection there?
All the Chinese I’ve asked about the death penalty agree with it, I’ve not found one person who opposes it. OK i’m only asking around my friends ni one city in the North East ubt its all I can manage.
The US today upheld that the method of execution by lethal injection is legal. Texas and Oklahoma have immediately restarted their execution programs straight away.

If any of you deign to actually come here during the olympics you will see that despite the Western media and mind set 99.9% of the poulation are happy, contented and fiercely proud and defensive of their country. Not only that but much freer and contented than us half the time.
You will also be able to walk the streets safely at night, have zero chance of experiencing crime (maybe the odd pickpocket if you are really unlucky) and when you go to bars and night clubs it might take you a few minutes to make your mind up whats wrong, what’s missing, then it wlil dawn on you - no bouncers/doormen and zero tensions/’you looking at me’ syndrome. In fact all that will happen is you and your friends will be swamped with locals eager to talk, drink and generally party.
They have a system, it works for them, almost all are happy with it, who are we to question them? They certainly don’t ever poke their noses into our business. Some things here I disagree with but hey, I disagree with some things in the UK too. Great strides have been made since the Tianenmen incident in the late 80’s, why not encourage them?

It seems we in the West must have a ‘baddie’ to focus on. When I was growing up it was either the dark sknined shifty bad guys of Enid Blytons famous five or big shaven headed Slavic Russians. Since the end of the cold war we have migrated our demons to China and Korea. Do we need a baddie to keep ourselves from focusing on our own societies shortcomings - from the rape, murder and violence of our societies?
I asked a few Chinese if they wanted our type of ‘freedom’ all answered me no. They did not really feel the need to have to vote and they certainly don’t want rude, misbehaved and increasingly drunken children/youths. Chinese society functions and functions well given the numbers over here. Sure it isn’t perfect but they don’t claim perfection, however in the main most are content.

We really need to get a grip as to why we need to have someone to demonise and villify even though most of us have no experience of the society or people we are villifying. Certinaly I have been guilty of this in the past with Arabs but I’ve begun to change this through reading and knowledge. Suggest others do the same with the Chinese and you’ll quickly realise how the events and issues yuo are all focusing on are such a small part of this vast country and vast population.

i hear what you are saying and yes I agree the media has a lot to answer for…

The issue isn’t the games, or Tibet, or even Human rights… if it was then no one can lay claim to a clear conscience all you have to do is look at the aboriginals and our white Australia policy …..

The issue is a wider one, china is a great nation and is moving along trying to become part of the global community and this is great
opening up in all areas, but the fundamental difference between China and the rest of the world is china will bring out the tanks against their own … they have and will again….

For a progressive nation with the largest population on earth who wants to be seen as a global leader and a blossoming superpower their methods are leaving a great deal to be desired. Perhaps they can find a balance between the old china and the new, but they must show leadership in all areas, to save face maybe, but to gain the respect of the world which they are attempting to gain they must listen to what the world is saying.. and that is This will not do…..

Every country including mine are guilty of doing things we are not proud off and I am by no means saying we are better but there is a point when a nation must say enough…. most of the world has done this. In order for china and others to be respected on a global scale then they to must show change….

Most of the population have known little else to what they have now.. they have been born for the state, worked for the state, lived and died for the state and yet the state will persecute those that disagree with its policies. For china to finally become part of the global village then this type of behavior must come to and end.

After all we aren’t discussing some tin pot African nation, were talking about china, the country that could quite possibly lead the world into the 22nd century and beyond.

We can clearly see why this guy is shot.

If you look closely, you can pick it out.

When the Chinese say, “No shoes, no socks, no service,” they really, really mean it.

That said…

Personally, I feel bad for the people carrying the torch. I mean, Christ, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and you’ve people throwing f’ing water balloons at them. I’m sure this is just how they imagined it when they were invited to carry it.

Leave the f’ing people alone…they’re not the ones oppressing Tibetans…they’re just trying to carry a friggin’ candle you stupid assholes. Throw a water balloon at me while I’m running with a torch, buddy, and you’re looking at some serious Olympic-sized burns on your ass.

Good job Mooooog35, have you given thought to my suggestion of an award as an alternative to “flower smeller” for those of us speaking sense and fun? I had the embryonic idea of ‘panty sniffer’ but I’m sure you can do better.’
Then, you, me, UP , AEP, bread bin, etc….can award it to people who speak sense instead of sporting a wrist full of bangles and chanting.
I welcome your thoughts.

STOP, put down the joss sticks.

Group hugs are about as far from the award I had in mind as its possible to be.
And you can stick your twister mat up your arse as well - figuratively speaking.
