Bang mang - Help

April 16th, 2008 by Gareth inThailand

Last weekend I was planting some sunflowers in the garden and left ten big holes in the garden while I went to buy some wooden poles and some compost. When I got back the holes had been neatly filled in. The Chinese groundsman who works on the development where I live spotted my puzzled look, came over and said ‘Yep, I couldn’t work out why someone dug your garden up either, so I filled it in for you’ I smiled and told him it was me and that I was about to plant some sunflowers. He looked puzzled and then asked why I didn’t ask him to do it. Seems most on the development don’t lift a finger themselves.

Are people too lazy these days? Does this explain why there are so many unfit people with no idea how to do even basic tasks out there?

OMG! This is so funny! Bad bad bad cow! Taking advantage of a poor stuck lady cow. Goodness this is funny!

Funny in an ironic way really. I agree not everyone who shows up is there to help sometimes they are there to take advantage of your weak points. Sometimes there are there to make your difficulty much worst. It’s not being lazy really but being greedy I think.

LOL GIC,

Our first thought was

Aaaaah - Bless that trapped creature.

Our second thought was…

‘WHOSE THE DADDY?’

Does that make us bad people?

Lazy thesedays, for sure. The ‘Have to do’ DIY days of yesteryear are leaving us behind, sadly.

I well remember GIC, trimming hedges with you 20 years ago for a bit of pocket money….far more satisfying work than stuck behind a desk like Stephen Hawkings, right? ;-)

Nope, not at all. I get significantly more pay these days and I’m only behind a desk 60% of the time.

You planting sunflowers? Hilarious! I don’t know why I find that so funny but I do!

As for help, I agree with Funky, I think ulterior motives are the problem as opposed to laziness.

People are increasingly looking out for themselves and take the view of what are they going to gain by helping, if the answer is nothing, then they don’t bother.

It’s very sad actually.

Gareth, why sunflowers?…his n hers, see who’s grow’s the highest! Did it last year, mine won hands down..12ft 8ins.You’ll need some good 10ft canes to support them.I’ve been busy growing stuff myself,i’ve dug a section of my garden out for a veggie patch! Got seedlings all over the kitchen, tomatoe’s,onions, little gem lettuce, jalapeno trees, beetroot. So,no laziness here Mr.Hughes. Much cheaper to grow your own and i want my little un’s to know that food doesn’t just come from Tesco’s!

Here in Changchun the locals eat sunflower seeds in huge quantites. most have perfected the knack of deshelling them in a very swift movement - small bite with your inscisors, slight twist and its done. As a result about 80% of the people here have a small 1-2mm groove in their top front teeth - its crazy to see. A lot of bars usually have a thick coating of sunflower shells on the floor, sort of like a mulch to soak up any beer thats spilt. I’m growing them to brighten up the garden and also to give the seeds to my Doris - home grown and all that.

The gyppos enjoy a kilo of sunflower seeds to chew during a car journey. When they’ve finished and filled either the ash tray or another bag they chuck the shells oout of the car

Shame I can’t join in - I have a strange allergy to sunflowers seeds. A few seeds and I turn into a Werewolfe within 5 minutes :-(

A great party trick but knocks me out for 2 days afterwards.

I think it is true here in the Emirates too. People have become very lazy. Stuff which our forefathers had no shame in doing using their own hands today are seen as “low” jobs which are supposed to be done by “imported poor” labour. Easy money makes people lazy, no doubt about that.
