GO! Smell Mumbai - Part 5
March 2nd, 2008 by JimWell with all the GO!ings on here with the new software, founder changes and the forum feature in the early stages of development we’ll crack on sharing our recent experiences of our visit to Mumbai right here.
Following on from fellow founder AngryinEllesmerePort’s post on GO! Get a proper job and Expat Inspirers ‘Career in your suitcase’ thread over at the Forum here’s what a few of India’s job seekers would answer!
1) Selling flowers at traffic lights:
2) Learning street art at an early age:
3) Our favourite that we saw in the 90 hours we were in Mumbai and this guy is doing far more than selling tools:
4) He is sharpening tools as he pedals - the faster the cycling the faster the grindstone and the better the result!
Talk about a tool peddler spinning the WHEEL and offering a BESPOKE service whilst keeping fit! Nose to the grindstone or what!
Awesome initiative! Do share any other jobs you’ve seen on your travels or where you live! Come on now, saddle up or give us a BRAKE

That’s a great set of photos. It’s amazing how many different ways people can come up with to make money. You might want to reduce the size of those images though, they’re taking a little while to load on the site.

Ok Funky girl, will do!
They were HUGE and took 5 minutes each to reduce….
Now I want to visit India more than ever!

You certainly won’t regret it. There is so much to see and experience. I would highly recommend it, the two years I was there were fantastic and it would take a lot for me to swap them.
The trick is to look past the obvious issues there. The way I look at it (this is probably a bad analogy and in no way should you read anything into it about India) is,
If you fall in the gutter you can look at the stars or stare at the turds,
Me, I look at the stars.
Great gutter analogy…doesn’t work in Hollywood where even if you fall face down you’ll end up looking at the stars should you happen to fall near Manns Chinese theatre…..GO! figure.
These are terrific. Are they really portable careers? I’m not sure the sharpening man could get his bike in the overhead locker of the plane let alone his suitcase …. but these are superb photos. I adore them. Can we collect them all somewhere? I think I feel a book coming on.
Guys, I am away doing some talks on things like Career in Your Suitcase … at the ‘wonderful’ FIGT conference in Houston, followed by a jolly in Vancouver with fellow expat expert who does what I do - http://www.expatexpert.com. I’ll take my camera and see if I get some more examples like RYK’s
See y’all
Hey Jo,

Looks like an interesting way to make a living…
