GO! Celebrate new Flowers with Ganesh!

Lord Ganesh, the god for auspicious beginnings and good luck

Arvind here, marking the launch of the new flowers look with Ganesh, the hindu god for new beginnings and good luck.

Ganesh is widely revered as the remover of obstacles and more generally as the god of new beginnings. When I moved into my new home a few years back, I carried out a ganesh ceremony. Today, my home is graced with quite a few ganesh symbols and statues - more of that perhaps in another post in the future.

Ganesh’s elephant head makes him easy to identify and he is the favourite god amongst millions of hindus, and is perhaps the most recognised hindu god worldwide.

So as we launch Flowers into a new era today, what blessings and inspiration do you ask from Lord Ganesh?

Lord Ganesh, please bring auspicious luck to all who come here to smell the Flowers!

Hi there Arvind..
My friend tried to teach me to count in Hindi this morning… it was so funny….
I got to about 7 and everytime I pronounced the word she started to giggle… I was sort of saying it right but the pronounciation kept sounding like a naughty word in Hindi… we had to stop because she just couldnt help herself laughing….. try again tomorrow…

I would ask from Ganesh to all who visit a healthy Happy and prosperous time in this 2008 and beyond..

Hey Arvind,

Major karma $’s for flowers then with Ganesh on our side…especially with that flower at his feet - nice touch.

We’re so homed in flowers at the moments that our answer is related to this community….so in addition to general health, wealth and the end of world poverty we wish for….

1) That the content here at flowers continues with hearty dialogue - thorny issues and all.

2) Someone gets the right answer to Mikes free flowers contest!

3) We find another 2 supercool founders when we launch blog idol next week.

4) Taylorblues comments can be fixed from going into Anonymous ;-)

5) Youtube links work and links can open in the same window (this should be fixed now by the way)

And During this transition we ask that regulars continue to give us feedback on the +’s an d-’s of the new flowers format, what works, what doesn’t and what could be implemented over the next couple of months.

Not too much then, right :-)

Anonymous Says:

AH! So I was right, you want Bridget to stay anon!! It’s the Brit conspiracy against the Frogs I tell you folks! 8)

I read Gareth for Ganesh at first! Talking of which, where is he? Doesn’t he know he shouldn’t stay away from Flowers for more than half a day? We miss his pedantic speeches here we do. Tell him Elton tell him! Gareth, come back!!! I’ve dedicated you a you-tube on the next post ;) And as soon as the audio feature is up, I’m recording some French accent especially for you! 8)

Arvind, how many Hindu gods are there?

Who’s me? Who’s me? Everyone is clueless ha! ;)

Arvind Says:

Hi Bridget,

There are literally millions of Hindu gods! There are so many variations and descendents from the initial triad of gods - Brahma (the creator who created the universe), Vishnu (the sustainer) and Shiva (the destroyer).

These three main gods then have countless avtars (incarnations) and they come down from heaven in human form, but with divine vitrues. So krishna was an avtar of Vishnu and so on…

Then they have their female consorts - goddesses such Laxmi (wealth), Saraswati (knowledge and education) and Kali (bestower of good luck but will destroy you if angered).

Ganesh is the son of Shiva and Parvati, who was born whilst Shiva was away on his pilgrimate around Kailash (mount everest). Parvati asked Ganesh to stand guard whilst she performed her morning godly pooja and to not let anyone in. Shiva arrived just then, and young ganesh refused to budge.

So Shiva in a fit of anger chopped his head off! (So gods to lose their temper too).

Parvati was rightly distraught and instructed Shiva to replace Ganesh’s head with the first animal he saw. So Shiva went off and promptly returned with the head of an elephant. And Parvatir performed her pooja with Ganesh first thing every morning ever after.

And the rest is history…

I still don’t know why if Shiva was so powerful and omnipotent he simply didn’t just restore the original Ganesh head!

But then we wouldn’t have this legend to share on Flowers :-)

I’ve been planning and booking my honeymoon.
As per every holiday I’ve taken my fiance on it is well planned and will be perfectly executed.
Limos at my home, Jakarta airport and Bali airport.
Flowers in the room at the Sheraton in Jakarta
Flowers and fruit in the room at the Grand Mirage in Bali
Nice sea view room just above the plam trees
First evening eating on the beach in bedouin tent type of thing
Several spa sessions (vouchers to be given at appropriate intervals by my good self)
etc.
You get the idea.
A bit different from looking out at three power stations and -20C temperatures.

Arvind Says:

Lucky wife-to-be Gareth!

Maybe Ganesh will be invoked in present in kind on the day to give you both blessings for a long and happy union.

At hindu weddings ganesh-worship is the very first part of the elaborate wedding ceremony.

I attended a cousin’s wedding last Sunday and there were Ganesh statues (called murti) at the entrance to the wedding hall.

Gareth In China Says:

I have two sandal wood Ganesh statues I bought in Pune and they sit either sit of my bed, hope he’s listening.
Mind you on my honeymoon I’ll probably be more like Krishna!

Arvind Says:

For your honeymoon, may Krishna grant you longevity, stamina, strength and staying power :-)

PS And may the gods bless you with you many children.

Is the world ready for little Gareths running around?!

Arvind’s last blog post..It?s a Dog?s Life - Love Yourself Uncondionally!

Gareth In China Says:

Arvind,
Please don’t bless me with many children, I’d see it as more of a curse. The world is overpopulated as it is and as anybody who knows me can tell you I have a very low threshold with kids. Generally I don’t like the little sh!ts.
One maybe two and thats me done. Probably go and get the pods sniped after that.
I tend to find its the lower end of the IQ distribution that has loads of kids (maybe they’re too dumb to work out what’s causing it) and then complain they’re poor and their house is too small so the council should give them three on top of their 42 grand a year benefits - not always but in the main.

Is the world ready for little Gareths running around? Of course. The only problem they will have is they will probably be bored in school just like I was, in todays society they will be held back by the dumbasses in the class. Generally the education of our children proceeds at a pace dictated by the lower end of the class - oh goodness we can’t have failures or tell parents their children are stupid/slow/dull/McDonalds foder now can we! However they will be suitably stimulated by their parents both mentally and through sport/activities.

Jim,
No the flowers are arranged at the hotel by the hotel.

Arvind Says:

Ok - Gareth, only two hyper intelligent kids for you with the blessings of Ganesh.

Hi Arvind

I have just been talking about you. This week I am the resident guest expert at the Australian Home Based Business forum - believe it or not. And people are asking me questions about getting published. Today, I got a query from a guy with a load of books to shift and told him to talk to you, the guru (who needs Ganesh?) of local book sales. You may hear from Kelvin.

I love learning about Gods and symbols and things in different religions and cultures. Thanks for this post, Arvind. I was glad to go to a Chinese New Year lunch 2 weeks ago and learned all about Earth Rats. Fascinating.

So, what do I want? Inspiration and blessings will do. Thanks

Like the ’subscribe to comment’ feature BTW

Arvind Says:

Hi Jo (Expat Inspirer)

My ears were indeed burning!

I will be delighted to discuss with Kelvin the strategies I have used to sell my self-published books in 1,000s. Maybe I should start running some courses in book marketing :-)

As I have said before on Flowers, there is no secret to book selling. First get as good a book as you can (with the help of Jo!) and then just call on as many bookstores as you can.

My secret - PERSISTENCE!

I called on 100s of books stores and kep plugging away till the Borders head office listed as a must have book in the self-help section!

If I can do it, anyone can.

Thanks for mentioning this Jo, as coincidentally I am about to market my second book heavily online in March - in time for Spring. More on this soon :-)
