Go Smell the unwanted Christmas Presents!
January 4th, 2008 by aussiecynicEvery year we get things for Christmas that we dont want, dont like, or dont fit…
but what do you do with an animal….
I have posted what happened at us the other day involving this…
When we found a Goat just before Christmas wandering up to the Garbage tip in the middle of the Road… and yesterday when we found a disguarded kitten at the Garbage tip…
Are these animals just things to be thrown away when we get bored with them?
Please read and let me know what you think?

curried goat is the way forward I will say no more
as for the kitten feed it to the goat
2 birds
1 stone
The economical approach, eh Gary? :0)
Oh dear how sad and thanks for sharing AC!
For life and not just for xmas eh….
What on earth did you do with the goat and the kitten you found? Bringing them in is the easy bit - its the exercise, feeding and nurturing that is the hard part huh?
The goat is presently staying at hubbies friends place they have two female and although he is a male he is desexed …. we brought him home here but as soon as he was left alone he bleeted so bad… so we teethered him to a cement post next to some nice new grass and he nearly broke his neck trying to get off….all he wants is company and doesnt like to be alone…. we are going to bring him up with one of the other goats and see how he goes…. for a few days….
The kitten is settling in nicely and although we are looking for a home for her it appears she is the member of our family…
It was funny though after the goat hubby said no more strays ….
All we need now is a wallaby…. I am not putting that out there we dont want one… lol…
But it is sad to think some one could do this….
and that nobody cares enough to stop them…
AC
And thats just AC after all that xmas excess!! (what about the goat!)
how do you know the goat didn’t run away of his own volition?
He might have….
but no one has claimed him and in a town of 3500 people someone would know ….
But as yet nothing…..
he did appear to have pulled free of his tether…. he had chain attached….

We ha
sorry, finger trouble. The goat is unlikely to be a throw away pet because they are usually useful - though not always - ours ate every tree in our garden and then went onto devour the neighbour’s trees. Perhaps we should have guessed something when we went to collect him from his previous owner who said it was easier to keep him on an island in the middle of a lake than have him closer to home. The kitten probably was a ‘disposable item’. We found two kittens in the large dustbin at the end of our road when we lived in Portugal and we have just rescued two more here in France where the cold had already killed off the rest of the litter. Well done you on finding a home, but watch out for the goat - they are great company, extraordinarily intelligent, but a lot else besides.
any thoughts on how to keep him quite and give him a friend without getting another one our yard really isnt big enough for two….
benzodiazapene
Gary, that was naughty! (tee hee)
oo gary….
just when I thought you are really a nice guy…
bam their you go keeping us guessing…
hehehehe
Apparently - Oxfam ran out of goats for people to send to Africa - at least we know of a few more now!
One unkind colleague suggested that they (the receiving family) might kill the goat before reading the instructions which would read… 1) do not kill goat - it is for milking!
Dubai locals still slaughter goats here in town and after EID we saw one being carted off to be ‘ offered’ - considered prized animals here and one of the healthiest milks / Cheese producers around….
I have taken in stray cats…but I’ve never heard of a stray goat! I sure hope it all works out…you guys are wonderful to be taking care of them.
I saw a family…yes, mom & dad in the front seat & 2 kids in the back, throw something from their car…I saw it move so went to investigate…it was a tiny black kitten…it had been badly abused. So small I could hold it in the palm of my hand. I took her home, nursed her back to health & she lived with me 18 years…she was quite the character too!
I don’t understand people who abuse or throw-away animals…I think they must have a psychopathic gene running thru them. The SPCA here in North America runs a campaign linking domestic abuse & child abuse to animal abuse…they encourage people to report animal abuse because studies have shown that in a household where pets are abused it’s likely that there’s child abuse and/or domestic abuse taking place. I always wondered about the kids in the back of that car…for their safety and also for what they grew-up to be like.
There does indeed seem to be a correlation between animal abuse and abuse of family members. It’s also been shown that children who abuse animals are more likely to be mean to/abuse people later in life.
By the way, I don’t mean to suggest that one kind of abuse CAUSES the other, just that they do seem to go together at a rate greater than you’d find by chance.
As for stray animals, we have a long history of taking in and fostering stray animals and injured wildlife. If you’re into this kind of activity, you’d do well to establish a good relationship with your local SPCA, a few kindly vets, and any local wildlife refuges, etc. so that you can get the critters out-placed properly. Otherwise you’ll end up being overrun.
they have the same results here to and the links do appear to be there….
It is sad that people find nothing with this sort of behaviour….
but at least there are those of us who still care and a lucky few critters find their way to one of us…
AC
indeed
when CLINICAL (note not NLP or crystal based nonsense) studies f psychopaths have been undertaken a number of ‘common characteristics’ have been identified
1) abuse/torture or killing of animals in childhood
2) destruction of property or an interest/obsession in fire
3) above average IQ
4) charming socioal chameleon like ability
5) ability to compartmentalise actions, people and events
6) an on/off conscience switch
7) the ability to justify actions with no or little remorse
so, for a first on here we have actually presented a case and can provide clinical back up for it! wonders never cease
no shocks who it involved though!! all we need iS gIc and Angry and we are in danger of bcoming rational!
Rational.. hey GAry I am rational….
Mostly….
lol
LOL @ providing clinical backup…I’ll remember to do that next time I post my 2 cents.
The goat must have been my ex-camel - was it waving a stick when you found it?
I can’t read stories like this AC, it really really upsets me but a BIG group hug for doing something about it.
What have you named the kitten?
Yep her name is Bandit because of the mask across her eyes…
and one eye is blue and the other amber…..
very cool
I’ll take the dog
Hmmmm
Do you want fries with that….
LOL
on a global basis feral cats far exceed domestic cats in numbers. i wouldnt get too upset about the kitten at the garbage tip its the natural place for feral cats to thrive, lots of thrown away food and lots of rats…… puurrfect environment for a cat
I wouldnt have worried if it was ferral but this was a pet….
We still would have gotten it out of the skip though….
The tip down here is more like a trash and treasure as there is no sevond hand shops, no furniture shops, etc…. so everything needs to shipped down to us unless you are driving the three hours to pick it up…
So many people take the old bits and leave them on display for the next car….
Unfortunatley there is no pet shop either…..
Ferral cats do loads of damage in Oz….
I might have found a home for the goat… 2 families are keen to take him if the owner does not turn up in the next day or two….
AC
Oh BTW wer dont have many Rats the Tasmania Devil killed them….
YUK AC - these critters are like a rat crossed with a bear and heres me thinking they were a cartoon guy….
Heres the real deal..
