GO! Smell the Dubai rain!
January 12th, 2008 by Jim & EmIt’s raining in Dubai today - a rare occurance & one that we enjoy as it cleans the air, a respite from the one big construction site the City has become but all in the name of progress, you understand..
What’s the weather like where you are? Do tell - Nearest town, country and climate puh-lease!

Well, it’s nice of course. I mean, this IS Hawaii. Temp right now is about 73F/23-ish C at 9PM.
But we had a lot of vog today.
(Vog = volcano smog.)
It’s always somethin’!!
VOG? That’s interesting, I learned something new today.
Oh yes Jem!!!! It finally is!! Started around 1 a.m. in my neighborhood, I went out on the balcony, got drenched in no time and tho-rough-ly enjoyed it!
It’s stopped now. Can’t wait for it to start again, and Bridget is going for a lonnng drive along the dunes, windows down, hair in the wind (or is it the other way round that they say it? Ha!)! And some walking in the rain too of course! Let’s get all close and personal with nature!
Kewl pic, Bridget very tempted to kiss in the rain like that, but maybe on grass rather and more tucked in her (non-existent!) bf’s arms! Oh and yeah, she’s in that shape already, no weight loss needed ha!
Enjoy nature in Dubai today guys!

Well right know it is 24C and has cooled down quiet a bit… it has gotten to 40 on Thursday which saw me burnt… blonde hair fair skin = ouch
sun is shining
Birds are singing
Breeze is blowing…
Just so you know a 24C day here is the equivalent in heat to 30-34C on the mainland…
UV rating 15+
Its like when you hold a magnifying glass over an ant in the sun… only we are the ants….
Mostly around -16C today but once the sun begins to go down, about 3.30pm, it plunges. Last night about -28/-29C, same tonight - right now it’s -19C (5pm).
Tomorrow around -15C/-20C in the day and -28/-31C at night.
Great boarding today even though my two French colleagues wasted half the day for me by being like old women, late turning up, slow getting boots on, 15 minutes planning out the route down they want, le etc, le etc.
Will probably dump them tomorrow as we have a US guy joining us.
So Gareth, you have nothing against the French?!
I can’t even imagine how cold -28/-29C would feel like!!!
Being of Indian origin, anything below 15C means we bring out the thick jumpers
Its a bit like -14C but twice as cold.
Well, I have never experienced -14C either.
The coldest I have been is aroun -4C in Edinburgh on New year’s Eve once. I was a little fortified with whiskey.
What do the Chinese take when it is -28C?
WHAT! A you serious with these temperatures and they talk about global warming?
Yes its serious, the inside of my door handle has to be de-iced each morning as I don’t have an expensive one with a thermal break. EAch monring I scrape of the ice and then open the door.
hmmm post with pictures coming on.
Eh? What do they take?
Basically lots of clothes, lots of chilli and lots of Bai Jou.
Where I live we have guards supplied by the Chinese army on the gate (its not necessary as there is little or no crime here - unless you count Germans dancing).
These guys stand there for 2 hours in very cold conditions (tonight - right now its -29C) . I tried to take one of them some hot soup a year ago but they aren’t allowed to move and I was asked not to do it again!
I’ve just walked for 15 minutes from my local bar, before I could type I needed 15 minutes in the shower (hot) and a Brandy coffee - bearing in mind I have some excellent winter gear.
However I actually like it during the day as the cold, snow, ice and lack of moisture is somehow invigorating.
Will be on the slopes again tomorrow but probably skiing rather than boarding as the guys I’m with are all skiers.
Riyadh has worse weather than Dubai, winters full of rain and wind while Dubai often has sunshine mostly. The temperature today is around 8 degrees and very dusty, not as cold as Gareth, but we do get frost on our cars some mornings here.
It is 5C in topical Coventry (a medium sized City in central Engalnd, famous for its Cathedral).
Beautifully sunny but fresh and time to wrap well.
I am just about to go for a walk in the woods and to check out hte ducks in the lake (i.e. man made pond).
By the way, Jim and Em, how realistic or far-fetched is your vision of looking like the couple in the picture after you have lost all that weight over?!
4 degrees C blue skys and sunshine (low and bright) with 7mph winds in a SWS direction.

On a personal note, the house heating has just turned off and its already starting to feel chilly plus I’ve got to pick my kids up from their mum’s in a few minutes (lovely weekend planned) but that will mean scraping the frost off the car!

p.s - i like the look of that weight loss program - lay in the road in dark clothes and weight for a HGV to flatten you. You won’t here it coming (unless your tonto and the other one is the Lone Ranger) ha ha
LOL Purple13!
Here - have some of our rain. In northern France it has rained for the past two days and the river that runs through our land has flooded the fields. Great for the ducks but bad news for the horses marooned on island of mud. Another month of this and they’ll leap a few evolutionary barriers and grow flippers. As for the humans we are just miserable and mouldy.
Hammering down here in Dubai, they should call George W the rainmaker! This rain is unheard of…
Toronto, Canada: It was raining earlier, but now it’s cloudy and about 4 celcius. No snow…that’s all I care about!
